- Description
In How to Read Like You Mean It, Kyle Conway presents his ideas on how to break down the act of reading, using humanities and social science-based scientific methods to read more fully. Conway contends that because we tend to resist ideas we don’t fully grasp, we must learn to embrace confusion as an essential part of understanding and meaningful dialogue and use that confusion to drive curiosity. His strategy is based on hermeneutics, or comparing parts of the text to the whole, and doing so iteratively. This non-fiction book can be used by educators to inform their own understanding of how to teach deep reading skills or used in discussion with students when working with difficult texts. Students can also use it to fulfill their non-fiction text requirement.
