Expanding on his previous work, Jared Tailfeathers continues his exploration of Blackfoot ways of knowing and teachings in Music of the Earth’s Heartbeat, with further considerations of history, place, music, and art. This work blends narrative essays, photographic and artistic materials, and reflections on music and ceremony to provide a strong resource for exploring Blackfoot culture and history. This work has a strong focus on oral traditions, land-based knowledge, and cultural reclamation, which can provide an Indigenous perspective to social studies lessons, though educators may need to use excerpts with additional educator supports for earlier learners. Tailfeathers also includes numerous examples of Blackfoot art and music with QR codes to some of the audio pieces mentioned, which may also be of interest to fine arts or music lessons.
