Description

In this mixture of fact and fiction, Alison Watt weaves the stories of three fictitious characters with factual events such as the Halifax Explosion and the experience of Canadian soldiers fighting in France during 1917. Inspired by the Canadian War Letters Project, this novel is a great example of building fictional stories around true events. The majority of the novel focuses on interpersonal relationships, resiliency, and the importance of art (both written and visual) in healing. Given the level of fiction, this book would be most appropriately used as a novel study, although it will tie in to some of the historical events covered in social studies as well.
