Description

Moon Dust in My Hairnet is a sci-fi novel where a girl with autism has to take matters into her own hands, with the help of friends and partners that she makes along the way and only some help from the adults around her. There are a variety of diverse characters within both the disability sphere and the LGBTQ+ sphere. Characters overcome struggles within themselves and interpersonally in very realistic ways. For high schoolers, this could fill their novel requirement. For junior high students, it provides a way to explore diversity, and explore basic sci-fi technical jargon. For younger grades, it can help them develop reading stamina through its engaging content, and introduce them to the sci-fi genre in a relatable way. For all grades, it features a diverse cast with a wide variety of abilities written which provide back story for the characters, but also drives the parts of the plot.
