- Description
Through short stories, Spirit Animals: The Wisdom of Nature provides insight into some Indigenous perspectives on relationships with and between animals. As noted in the introduction, the book’s content isn’t gospel but it will introduce readers to stories that are rooted in communities across this land. The tales in each section focus on a particular animal, providing information about their medicines or traits, as well as ways that readers could connect to the spirit of that animal. Many of the stories portray how different animals relate and interact with each other or their environment. Excerpts from this collection could be used to integrate Indigenous perspectives on the natural world into lessons, or the stories could be read to animal-focused early readers.
